For over 20 years, Amy Link managed and lead the immigration departments at some of South Florida’s premier immigration firms. Over her long-standing career, she mentored new immigration attorneys while managing a substantial caseload of corporate and individual clients.

In 2021, Amy decided to leave a large 500+ attorney national law firm to realize her dream of opening a boutique law firm where she could provide a more personalized one-on-one client experience. Today, Amy continues to work with many of the corporate clients she has served for well over a decade.

H1B Lottery Update for Fiscal Year 2023:

Employers submitted 483,927 H1B cap lottery registrations this year, a 57% increase over the FY2022 filing season.

USCIS selected 127,600 FY2023 registrations to meet the H1B annual quota, approx. 26% of the total lottery registrations. Lasy year, 42% of the total lottery registrations were chosen. This is a significant drop in selections!

It is not yet known if USCIS will conduct further lottery selections this year as it has in prior years.

Secretary Mayorkas Designates Ukraine for Temporary Protected Status for 18 Months

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the designation of Ukraine for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months. A country may be designated for TPS when conditions in the country fall into one or more of the three statutory bases for designation: ongoing armed conflict, environmental disasters, or extraordinary and temporary conditions.

USCIS Increases Auto Extension for Work Permits

USCIS issued a Temporary Final Rule (TFR) that increases the automatic extension period for employment authorization for certain EAD applicants to up to 540 days. Effective May 4, 2022, this TFR will help avoid gaps in employment for noncitizens with pending EAD extension applications and stabilize the continuity of operations of U.S. employers. This applies only to certain EAD categories and also applies to those persons whose 180-day auto extension has lapsed.
